Aloo Masala Sandwich Recipe: learn how to make aloo masala sandwiches, a grilled sandwich recipe with spicy potato masala filling. Served hot with ketchup on the side, these aloo masala sandwiches make perfect tea time snacks for kids and adults.

This sandwich recipe comes with a story. We had friends, a couple, who used to live in Singapore who would have us over for tea now and then. Their company was great, they were lovely people, but more than that, their tea time snacks rocked. They served great snacks that were freshly made, simple, and yet tasted so good over hot tea and a good conversation. After almost 3 years of first tasting these aloo masala sandwiches at their place and remembering them fondly, I decided to make some for us one evening. Megha and Rohit, this post is dedicated to you guys!

I have started experimenting with a lot of sandwich recipes of late and due to this, we always have bread at home. I also boil potatoes in bulk and keep them in the fridge to put together something very simple like a potato masala for masala dosa or a simple aloo fry to go with rice. So these sandwiches are really a breeze to pull together as needed, freshly grilled and hot.

Serve aloo masala sandwiches with green chutney or tomato ketchup and some cardamom tea. YUM!

Notes:

  • You can use leftover aloo masala from making masala dosa but make sure it is not too watery.
  • If you have a sandwich maker, toast or grill in it directly instead of using the pan on stove top. My sandwich maker gave up on me a couple of years ago and I never replaced it
  • Serve as soon as the sandwiches are grilled and fresh. While it tastes okay after some time, these sandwiches are best eaten fresh
  • Adjust all ingredients in the aloo masala filling to your taste. Some green chillies would be nice instead of the chilli powder, for example
