Paneer Burji / Bhurji Recipe
Some time back, I had asked people to share their favourite paneer dish in the Edible Garden Facebook page. I was quite surprised to see that Paneer Burji got the most votes, only followed by paneer tikka masala. I was surprised that this simple dish that I hadn't even bothered to blog about impresses so many people.
So here goes, my most versatile paneer recipe - Paneer Burji. The beauty of this recipe is, its entirely flexible. You can change around the masala powders (like using pav bhaji masala) you use and experiment with adding different vegetables (like adding tomatoes).
Paneer Burji Recipe
Serves 2
What I Used:
1.5 cups paneer, crumbled
1 small onion, chopped fine
2 green chillies, chopped fine (adjust to taste)
1/2 of a capsicum, chopped fine
A pinch of turmeric
1/2 tsp jeera powder
1/2 tsp garam masala
Fresh coriander leaves to garnish
2 tsp oil
Salt to taste
How I Made It:
1. Heat oil in a pan and add the onions and green chillies. Once the onions turn soft and pink, add the jeera, salt, and turmeric. Fry for a minute.
2. Now add the paneer, garam masala and capsicum. Stir well and cook on low fire for 7-8 mins, stirring in between. The capsicum should be crunchy. Adjust salt.
3. Garnish with the coriander leaves and serve warm with rotis or use in a sandwich. Yum!
That's so ridiculously simple that if you use store-bought paneer cubes, this should be done in less than 15 mins. How's that for a quick dinner idea?
Note: Substitute crumbled paneer with scrambled eggs and you have egg burji!

Im not surprised that paneer burji is so popular..its such a delicious yet handy recipe. I love that you can add or delete ingredients and yet have a wholesome yet delicious meal.

ReplyDeletea simple but so satisfying dish! i love paneer bhurji
ReplyDeleteI love paneer, but am quite fussy abt it. It has to be absolutely fresh & soft & I don't like dishes like palak paneer & shahi paneer N stuff .. Paneer bhurji had always been an exception though .. simple to make & goes great with some phulkas at night
ReplyDeleteI have not tried yet,but I have tasted it in friends place, she had added ginger which I hated in that,I love ur recipe, I ran out of paneer now and could not find in Mustafa too!

ReplyDeleteA favorite! I remember when I was working in Reliance Mobile, we had grand cafeterias which sold strictly OK food, but they had a 'driver's canteen' which had on its menu the BEST paneer bhurji ( as well as other items) .. ur post brought back those memories and a craving!
ReplyDeleteThough I am not a big fan of paneer, I like eating this one. Now you know why paneer burji topped the list :)

ReplyDeleteHey Nags,
ReplyDeleteI usually get paneer from the store which is in the form of chunks... do you actually get crumbled paneer also for burji ? or do you crumble the slab/chunks?
hey SM, my cup measurement for non baking ingredients is very approximate, so let's say its about 200ml or a bit more than that. I get store-bought paneer and crumble it up for the paneer burji :)
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteFirst time here. Yummy recipes i guess.... everyone's so full of praise for ur recipes. was never fond of paneer until a neighbour friend from delhi send me a little two yrs ago. My son tried Paneer Butter Masala from a restaurant last month and is in love with it. was searching today for its recipe when i came across this blog. Made it an hour ago, and must say, its really turned out even better than the restaurant one my son loves so much. Paneer burji pic also looks damn tempting. Think i'll try it in a day or two.
