Gobi Peas Masala

Its been a while since I cooked. Also have been feeling extremely guilty for not participating in any event this month. Atleast wanted to be a part of Jugalbandi's Click Event and Kanchana's WBB. The former is done and I am waiting for the results. Latter, is just three days away from ending. And one would think its easy to just make an omelette and send it over (that's the theme this month for WBB)

Anyway, I am trying revive myself out of the hiatus with this quickie dish.

Gobi Peas Masala

What I Used:

Cauliflower - one medium, chopped into fine pieces
Peas - 1/2 cup
Onions - 2 large
Tomatoes - 2
Ginger garlic paste - 2 tbsp
Green chillies - 4
Chicken masala - 2 tbsp
Chilly powder - 2 tsp
Turmeric - 1/4 tsp
Oil - 3 tbsp
Salt - to taste

How I Made It:

1. Saute the onions in the oil, with some added salt, till golden brown.

2. Add the ginger garlic paste and the masala, along with green chillies. Fry well for 3-4 mins.

3. Next, add the cauliflower, peas and tomatoes and mix well. I like the gobi in small pieces so I chopped it up finely.

4. Add 1/5 cups water and cook closed.

5. Adjust salt to taste. For added taste, also add one pinch sugar.

It tasted fine but lacked the rich colour that I have normally seen in gobi masala. Please let me know what you do differently. This was just a quick fix for lunch on Saturday.

  5. Cauliflower is like a comfort vegetable for me. Love it anytime along with cabbage.
For me what works with the rich color is turmeric. Since you have already added, maybe you can a bit more and also more chilli powder.

n thanks for the compliments, all my pains paid off. I am actually trying a free software called FotoFox which allows me to put different borders and texts of any color I want. try this link: www.fxfoto.com(standard is free).I am pretty impressed with this software than GIMP.

  16. Oh yes!.. looks amazing in that new bowl with the ray of sunlight :)
If you want to improve the colour...always use ripe red tomatoes and saute well...use 1/2 tsp curry powder instead of chicken masala...and a dash of kashmiri red chilly powder..lastly 2 pinches of garam masala..remember this is basically North Indian..

  19. What a delicious looking curry that is.. wish i had some warm rotis to go with it! :) I love how the sunlight adds a nice dimension. Tomato paste can lend a really good colour when good ol' tomatoes and chilli powder don't do the trick.
Btw, can you please let your sister (Bharathy) know that her veg. noodles look awesome. For some reason I've never been able to comment on her blog. When i go to post comments, the little preview of the page comes and immediately all my Internet pages close down... This has happened everytime I try to comment on her blog and I always feel bad about not being able to comment but I can't even write in abt that. So, decided to ask you pass on the message... please... :) Thank you Nags.
