Indian Street Food from Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur

All taken from the recent trip to Delhi, Agra, Jaipur.

The papad seller outside City Palace, Jaipur. They were Rs.10 each and tasted a lot like tapioca papads from Kerala – absolutely delicious. Look at the happy grin on TH’s face!

Breakfast in the Delhi-Agra Shatabdi Express. Brown bread, vegetable cutlets, Amul butter (YUM!), jam, and juice. Coffee/tea was served first with Marie Biscuts. Never knew such service existed in Indian Railways. Thoroughly impressed!

Dinner on the Agra-Delhi Shatabdi Express – Panner Butter Masala, Chhole Masala, Vegetable Pulao, Chapati, Dahi and cut carrot-radish salad. Like I said, impressive. Meals are included in the ticket cost – about Rs.400 per person, one way.

Mobile Chaat Counter. The Govinda poster was popular. Almost all chaatwallas had it. ~Near India Gate, Delhi

You've made me miss Delhi awfully bad. Those papads were 10paise each, once upon a time; and Delhi Haat and Prince Pan at GK is the best for street food. I have always felt that Shatabdi food is quite comparable to the meals that Indian airlines serve- after all they're all catered by the Taj Group!

appalams are really amazing. During exhibitions in my native place they used to sell these ig appalams and they name it as "delhi appalams".
We travelled in Rajdhani express from chennai to delhi, even there in the 36 hrs journey they give lot of food and all of them will taste awesome.

Truly smells delicious. We once travelled in the Shatabdi and everything truly tasted like home meals. I liked the tomato soup with the breadsticks they served us in the evening.

Ah! Meetha paan! I miss those days in hyd when we'd stop by after dinner for paan. Elika and Kilang , my friends at CIEFL introduced me to the wondrous thing. Now, the problem is I dont know any nice paan place in Chennai and then again, eating paan sweet or not is frowned upon so much here!

I must admit, the vegetable cutlets were a bit too heavy on coriander. But more than the taste of food, I was amazed at the mere fact that they served food like this on trains. Its my first time experiencing that 🙂
