Condensed milk pound cake recipe – It’s Friday and I am quite exhausted. The past few weeks have been a whirlwind at work and I haven’t been able to do things outside of it as much as I’d have liked to. But let’s talk about some condensed milk pound cake goodness and work on the stress, shall we?
I can’t begin to talk about how much I love condensed milk. When I was small, I used to add it to toast, dip plain vanilla cake in it, top my cupcakes with it, have it with roti, dosa, you name it! Even now, I almost always have a tin of condensed milk in the pantry, ready to get added to anything that takes my fancy.
That’s a lot of talk for a tired girl so on to the recipe now. This condensed milk pound cake clearly won over a fool-proof one banana-banana bread I made recently, in this poll, so on to the recipe, one step at a time.
As always, a dish of the final good stuff. There’s a reason why my cake looks a bit dense and hole-y. More about that in a bit.
Let’s the flour first. 1 1/3 cup all purpose flour or maida.
Add that into a sieve with 3/4 tsp baking powder.
Sieve about thrice until the baking powder and the flour are well combined.

Top this off with 1 cup soft butter. I slightly melted it because I forgot to keep it out before baking but butter at room temperature is what we need here.
Beat the butter-sugar mixture well using an electric beater for 2 mins until fluffy. If using hand, beat well for about 5 mins.
Open the milkmaid can. Lick off the excess on your fingers, smell it, lick some more. Come on, I insist.
Once you are done with the above, measure out 1 cup of it and add it to the butter-sugar mixture.

Add the whisked butter-sugar-condensed milk mixture to the flour mixture with one pinch salt. Mix until just combined.

Top it off with the whisked egg. Combine gently without beating.
Add 1 tsp vanilla essence to the batter and swirl around a few times.
There we have our batter.

Still, this was one good cake, have to say!
Here’s the recipe, all in one place.
Condensed Milk Pound Cake
Makes an 8″ square cake or one standard sized loaf
Ingredients:
1 1/3 cups all purpose flour or maida
1 cup sweetened condensed milk
1 scant cup powdered sugar (I used a little over 3/4 cup)
1 cup unsalted butter at room temperature
2 eggs
3/4 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla essense
1 pinch salt
Instructions:
1. Sieve the flour and baking powder until well combined. You can also whisk it well in a bowl until combined, if you don’t have a sieve.
2. Beat butter and sugar together until soft and fluffy – 5 mins by hand, 2 mins by electric beater. Then add the condensed milk and repeat for the same time, until well combined.
3. Whisk eggs in a bowl for 2 mins with a fork and set aside.
4. Add the flour to the butter-sugar-condensed milk mixture and mix until just combined without beating too hard.
5. Add the eggs, vanilla essence and salt and combine well again.
6. Transfer to a greased cake tin or loaf pan and bake in a pre-heated oven at 180C/325F for 30-35 mins. Insert a toothpick at the center to test if the cake is done.
7. Cool, slice and serve.
Can this be cooked in pressure cooker, like other cakes?
you can try it, i haven’t tried this particular cake recipe in a pressure cooker
Hi Nags, I have been trying most of ur recipes….tried this one too…..however my batter was much thicker and not free flowing like yours, also the cake was not as soft as yours…..wonder what went amiss
hi rekha, seems like you need to add more moisture. try increasing butter by 2 tbsp
I tried this cake came out excellent………Thanks for the excellent recipe
Girl, you make cooking sound so interesting! Please do share microwave cake recipes as well. If you haven't tried them yet, guess it's time, non cooks like me are waiting for inspiration 😉
BTW, the cake looks yummy and I feel the same about condensed milk … yummmmmy!
great recipe! Although I used metric conversions which made it slightly different but still amazing! i added chopped pecans the first time and cocoa powder the second.
Thanks for this lovely recipe! I'm making it now as a Mother's Day cake! Many, many thanks!! 🙂
Hi, Thanks for the recipe!! My 5 yr old daughter and I tried this out y'day and cake came out really well. There were a few anxious moments before I added the eggs, since the dough looked very heavy. But the trick of adding egg at the end is a good one and it aerated the cake well!!! My daughter was really proud of herself for 'baking a cake' and she's taking it to school for her snack-time!!!
That's so adorable! 🙂
Thanks! Now we have something to do w/ all the condensed milk in our pantry!
its probably because you skipped the egg. or could be oven temperature or the pan you used.
I tried this recipe but without adding egg, i baked for 40 mts, but the inner portion was not baked and again kept it for another 10-15 mts, it turned as a barfi. What's wrong ? I want to try it out again! Pls. suggest
done!
In your written recipe, it looks like 11/3 cups instead of 1 1/3 cups. It's very easy to make the mistake of putting 11/3 instead of 1 and 1/3. Please fix this typo.
you are welcome! condensed milk pound cake is probably one of my favourite!
Wow, thanks for the step by step recipe !
Hi Nags,
As I type this the cake is in the oven. Can't wait to eat it. Will let you know how it turns out.
Karen.
Ashwini, it IS yummy! Let me know if you try it 🙂

Nags,
You tempted me to buy a Milkmaid can, the first thing I should do tomorrow morning. I just can't count the number of times I have cut my fingers trying to take out the last drop of condensed milk from the can.
PS: The paper looked funny :), but no intention to hurt any community.
OMG, that type of condensed milk ( Milkmaid) looks way creamier than the one here! The cake too looks so soft and delish!
oooh…looking at this cake added 3 inches to my hips. Thanks A LOT!
Since I have been overdosing on sugary food and now have no threshold for low sugar items, please take a few minutes to fill out the following survey for my sole benefit.
How sweet was this cake?
1.All your teeth fell out the next day
2.Temporary Sugar-high and headache inducing
3.Mild and milky
4.Creamy, but not sweet.
Thank you for your time. Your baking adventures are greatly appreciated by us. 😉
That's a mistake I make often too, but the cake looks perfect, especially the last picture, the texture looks amazing.
Marie – microwave cake recipes follow a different proportion of ingredients so i am not sure if this recipe will work in it. you could prolly try with slightly more butter and some milk added? i wouldn't know cuz i haven't tried cakes in microwave yet.
Looks tasty, regardless of the baking accident 🙂
Condensed milk pound cake looks spongy and moist. Will try it soon:).

Just finished making the cake. It's baking in the oven- about 10 more minutes to go. I'm giong for a quick coffee run when I take it out and when I return it should be cooled and edible! I'll update on how it turns out. Thanks for the recipe!

Deesha – i always have time to bake 😀 i only have this loaf pan that's pyrex. i always forget to regulate the temp when i bake in this. since its glass and heavy, in my oven it has to be baked for longer at lower temperatures. but in my opinion, aluminium cake pans are the best!
Ann – you are hilarious girl 😀 this was a tad on the sweeter side. the original recipe called for 1 cup sugar and i added only a little over 3/4 cup. you could do the same. so in ur options, i'd say its between 2 and 3.
OMG, that type of condensed milk ( Milkmaid) looks way creamier than the one here! The cake too looks so soft and delish!
With the step by step pictures that you take,it is understandable if it slipped your mind to keep the butter out or preheat the oven, and yet…. get a wonderful product.

that's one yummy loaf of cake… I love pound cakes but they have wayy too much butter… I think I love them because they have waaayyy too much butter 🙂

where did you find time to bake girl? Do you use Pyrex to bake as well?
The cake looks so yummy…nice color..
Perfect is the word for this one!!!! Your posts are always crystal clear in how to go about making the dish 🙂
Love that colour of the cake and looks so so beautiful and yumm.
Cakes like these are my favourite, reminds me of home.
hi… the pictures are so so so tempting… and the best part is you make it sound so so easy for non-bakers like me!! can this be done in the microwave ?
Hi Busy Girl! Good to see that busy days motivate you to bake a pound cake. The cake looks great, my only concern with the pound cake was and is the calories. I look at my waist line and tell myself, no I can not have this. But once in a while ' sab chalta hai'!
Yummy yummy cake. Mom makes the same way sans consensed milk. Good old stove-top oven cakes and newer ones are equally good though! Again, wanted to ask about the newsaper before you told about it.
Err…Condensed Milk cake? Oh, I remember I had made as my first cake when I was teenager. But I made it chocolate condensed milk cake (I perfectly remember I had used 'Thums-up' cold-drink in it) using cooker. 🙂 I almost forgotten my recipe though.
Yes, I also lick off the extra. 😉 😀
Your cake looks perfect!
Roti and Dosa with condensed milk!? Girl, i got to meet you soon:)
Cake looks yummy. I loved the pic of the golden brown cake just out of oven. Makes me want to have it!
hb, you're always the first one here!! how nice is that?! yes, the paper, its free and its half english half chinese, and the news and articles is mostly different, not the same translated stuff. anyway.. its free 😀
