Calphalon Hard Anodized Wok
What is hard anodized cookware? Yeah, I asked myself this question about two months back, read up on it and found most of the answer here.
Now, I am the very happy and satisfied owner of this beautiful piece of cookware.
What? Hard Anodized Wok
Where? Tangs Orchard
Price? SGD 139, ~ Rs 4500
I was looking for a wok to replace my Prestige non stick kadai that I got as a wedding gift. Although I generally don't listen to public opinion regarding health - issues (yes I just said that!), this non-stick and associated health hazards has made me uncomfortable. You can read a bit about here.
Calphalon is apparently the pioneer in anodized cookware and so, their products are sturdier, last longer and therefore, costs more.
Its a beautiful wok, love at first site for me!
The edges are smooth and it feels like non - stick yet looks better.
The size is perfect to cook for the two of us but you can bump up the amount of food and cook for max 4 people if it comes to that.

Good one Nags. I have been thinking of replacing the worn out utensils in my kitchen and this post comes at the right time.
ReplyDeleteCalphalon is a great brand - I own a few of them myself and can tell you with confidence that you'll love it.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like non stick - but food will stick. But, its a breeze to get it off. Just soak it in soapy water for a few mins and it comes right off.
Medium cooking heat + good quality hard anodized pans = wonderful food for the family!
RV, hope you share with us what you eventually purchase :)
ReplyDeleteMriganayani, your anodized pan is in my drafts, will post that soon to add on to this collection :)
Hi Nags, I have been using Hawkins Futura Hard Anodized cookware for long now.

In India, they are the cheaper ones compared to the imported ones available in Lifestyle Home Stop etc.
In fact, thanks to your post, I got introduced to Calphalon:D The non-stick cookware I use is Tefal brand (thanks to Amma), some of which are old now, but really good and sturdy. ~ Shreya
Thanks Shreya! Loved browsing through that link!
ReplyDeleteHello, Been thinking of this for a while now, unfotunately couldnt make up my mind during my last visit to the US, found it a bit expensive. But reading now I find it is a lot safer. Can you pls let me know if you can put it in a dishwasher. Thanks a lot Angela
ReplyDeleteHi Angela, the one I have says it is dishwasher safe but am sure there are different kinds so be careful if you decide to buy it.
ReplyDeleteMost of hard anodised cookware is coated with non stick material...Hard to find one that isn't. So it has the same risk as regular non stick.... Only difference is that hard anodised is very stong and hence less prone to non stick chipping off... That the only diff. I found that branded good grade steel wok's like taht of cuisin art is pretty good... and foof doesn't stick...
ReplyDeleteI have one of these. Its sturdy . But one thing i noticed while comparing it to other non-stick coated cookware is, you have to actually apply more oil before cooking a stir fry or sauteeing becoz food tends to stick at high fire to a very sticky extend. Good for doing deep fries, but it gets hot spots on the corners which are permanent and cannot be washed away.
ReplyDeleteAnon- that's interesting to know..
ReplyDeleteRoopa, you are right, it needs more oil than regular non stick but overall, I love the fact that food cooks more uniform because it takes its time to heat up and cool down. I don't use it for deep frying.
hi everybody,
ReplyDeletewe still use the regular iron kadai at home and dishes come out great ...why worry about non stick ones ?
