Let's celebrate my b'day month

I want to thank all of you for giving me so many different and fantabulous ideas for my b'day. If you want to read more about the day, the gifts, the fun, the pictures, here's the write-up!

Now.. for the important part!

The winner of The Body Shop goodie is....

Jayashree!!

Jayashree, please write to me at naagu.v@gmail.com with your postal address and phone number please.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

As narcissistic as the title sounds, I actually have a very nice way that we can celebrate my b'day this year, which is coming up next week, btw. So I am giving away this awesome fragrance from The Body Shop - one of my favourite places to pamper myself (albeit overpriced!). I am a member and get awesome discounts, especially during my b'day month so I have started shopping already.

Here's what you stand a stance to win - The Body Shop White Musk Chiffon Sheer Body Mist (phew!)

To enter the giveaway, leave a message with what you think I should do on my b'day this year.

You can leave names of recipes I can cook, places I can eat in Singapore if you know any good ones, things I can buy myself, anything at all. If you want to share your experiences of a b'day, go ahead and add that on.

One winner will be chosen by random. I can ship worldwide too. Contest ends on August 11th, midnight, Singapore time (GMT+8:00) because I am tired of calculating PST and EST and what not. So please leave your comment before the stipulated time to qualify.

Let the fun begin!

*Prizes sponsored by Nags because its her b'day and she likes to think she can afford to shop for more people than herself!

  1. Birthdays are nice when u have all ur friends and family around. Since u live in singapore nags, I am not sure u have ur family around but u can definitely invite all ur friends the evening before ur birthday. Make some quick party food and askthem all to stay till midnite or better to stay back to bring in ur birthday!!!!

I m sure it will rock that way and u will have a birthday to remember!

    Regards,
    Veds

  2. Don't cook on your bday...Go for a nice romantic dinner the eve of your birthday and take the day off on your bday...pamper yourself, have a nice brunch, laze around, watch a movie and enjoy getting a year older :)

On my bday we had dinner with my baby boy in Bombay cafe, Tanjong Katong.

  5. One way to celebrate that could be very satisfying too is to doing some kind of volunteer work with children/old age homes or whatever you are interested in. In the days leading up to your birthday, you can keep adding things that you don't use any more but can be of use to the people you're going to be working with. You can even spend a day in a government hospital and just help direct lost relatives towards the right department or help illiterate people fill up hospital forms.

Or you can go for a small trip/trek with no plans at all. Don't carry much cash and eat at local places. If you can manage eating at a local house, nothing better than that.

Don't know how all this will work out in your part of the world.

Any which way you choose to celebrate your birthday - hope you have a complete blast! :)

  6. Umm, i think the most valuable thing you can gift yourself this birthday is a bit of knowledge that will go a long way in giving u what we all chase after: happiness.
So just for your birthday, try this: expect nothing.
And perhaps, you will be surprised at how peaceful that leaves you :) and happy birthday in adv Nags :)

  7. Cook on your birthday.., for me that would be the last option :D My hubby has never cooked for me & as a result we end up eating out always. Regarding resturants in Singapore.., there are too many good ones..(I can share only veg options he he). The first place I could think of is Go India at Vivocity(awesome food, but a bit expensive), followed by Bombay Cafe Express at Suntec, Chutney Mary at ECP & many more. There is this Bombay Woodlands @ Tanglin Road that serve excellent Karnataka food. I had my birthday dinner there. Just try their bisi bele bhath & mysore masala dosa, it is very authentic.., just the way my mom makes..
Enough for now right? Enjoii your day :)

  8. You can start off your birthday by doing something really good (like sending me that body mist).....followed by some more good deeds (sending me that mascara from your previous give-away) :-))
Nah....just go ahead and have lots and lots of fun doing whatever you enjoy doing the most. Happy birthday, girl......

  10. I am terrible at memorizing people's birthdays. See you just got lucky, happy birthday in advance! :)
I am the last person when it comes to advising people about how to spend their special day. Oh,by the way shouldn't we be saying all this to TH and not you.
Anyway,go to New Asia Bar which I heard is on 72nd floor. I also heard it has got this beautiful view and sounds all romantic ;) Oh, is your birthday falling on weekend or weekday ? If it's in between the week are you guys planning to take off.(Am I asking too many questions?)If yes, Then enjoy a romantic comedy with cheese popcorn. I love the popcorn part :D If you are at work, you can take your colleagues to a place which you guys were planning to go since long and couldn't go. Aww!I feel like saying all this to people on the other side.
Give cooking a miss and enjoy some nice sundae, cakes.(Nothing like indulging in chocoholism, atleast for me!)Ye,now I remember how you love cheesecakes.
I am sure there would be loads of surprises for you and you don't even have to plan a thing.
    Have a lovely day sweety!*Hugs*
Arrgh!I don't know why it took really long to post this comment.

  11. Your birthday is a special time to celebrate the gift of 'you' to the world says a popular quote.....my idea of celebrating b'day that too a person with big heart like you......is not by cooking anything special or eating out....I always like to donate a lil amount to orphanage or take goodies for the children out there....you can even plan an b'day celebtation at old age home by seeking all there precious blessings....At my home town we have a orphange run by Mother Teresa trust and it is all fun to take cake and chocolate and celebrate with the cute lil kids there...the joy on their face makes u more rich and happier...if it is possible for you to do there...try it...you will be a happy soul at the end of the day.....advance b'day wishes.....have fun...

  12. lots of love & hugs for this birthday girl for next week !, I really do not know how to celebrate birthday, which i have not done for years.., so I will be the last person to advise you, As I do not use perfumes!, may be my daughter can use it!, my hubby would have used it, only it's women's!!, :), we have a fight because of this almost everyday!, well, coming back what I would like to do on a birthday is have a lovely blissful head-bath, wear a new dress, and i want my hubby to surprise me with lovely gift, go to a temple, come back and have a hearty breakfast with the family in a lovely restaurant, go visit my parents take aashirwadam from them get gifts from them, enjoy taking calls from everybody who wish me to have a very happy birthday, then again go to a superb restaurant to have a wonderful lunch, laze around, go here and there places which you haven't visited of course with my kids, i can't leave them behind, i wouldn't enjoy any place without them!!, do whatever you want to do which has been in your mind for a long time, well, I do not know singapore heard it is very beautiful, Then again have a light hearty dinner, sit in front of the tv with ur hubby watch a lovely romantic movie, and have a blissful sleep!! if you were in India i would have suggested as blinkandmiss to do something.., which would have been worthwhile to remember you could have cooked for the homeless/orphanage kids who would have had a scrumptious lunch in your hands and would have blessed you with love. oh dear!, i wrote so much again, however enjoy your birthday dear and write to us of what you did!

  18. Just take the day off. Put up your feet. PAMPER yourself, go out for the entire day with TH or just take off for someplace nice and quiet. We have a lovely place - Matheran close to Bombay where we both just take off to whenever we can and always around our Wedding Anniversary and walk through the lovely, quiet forest. check out my blog (http://vastblueskies.blogspot.com) Just him and me. Maybe there is such a place close to Singapore. And save a piece of cake for me.

  24. Hey Nags,

On your birthday this year, try making a list of what are the things that make you super happy. Will you shop till you drop, will you cook all ur fav dishes, will you do something really nice and bring a smile on someone's face, or will you just sleep the day away! Either way do whatever makes you really really happy, and yes do spread ur 'awesomeness'. For my part, I wish you have a great great day! And hey, when is the D-day next week, u missed mentioning that!

Have a great birthday and a wonderful life!

    Love,
    Dharini

Advanced B'day wishes to you...and do the sun, sand and surf that day!

  28. Have you heard abt bringing a smile on another persons face brings you joy for lifetime? So all you need to do is send two tickets for singapore and I will haul the THUDDING SENSATION SJ and land at ur door step. You can pamper us for a week and we will donate the body mist to one of the guys who beat me on 3 para comments! Sigh!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Eat comfort food, sing a song, do some dance, pamper urself with shopping, enjoy with better half, satisfy inner soul by doing something good for someone else, sleep late....not necessarily in the same order!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. So birthday coming up, dont cook at all, m sure ur hubby can take you out for a romantic dinner!

I prefer giving something to the salvation house.. whatever you can, like Food, clothes or money:)
and Since you are the member of Bosy shop.. Have you tried their Eye shadows? Its awesome...:)

    ReplyDelete
  32. First - take the day off - no appointments, no work(;-)) no household chores. Have a lazy but thoroughly indulgent brunch (will you be having the lobster, ma'am?), head outside for dinner with the hubs and a movie, or just laze around in a pretty dress and jewelry just because you can! Catch up with your family in far flung places - because family is what caused you to be here in the first place ;-)!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Buy some thing you love much, and donate to the needy..
A lunch near the waterside or a candle light dinner will be enough, I think.. :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hey there - which day is it ? In any case, advance b'day wishes. May you get all that you want in life and more !

For suggestions on what to do, you've already got plenty by now. But my 2 bits, you can try the Mediterranean place called Original Sin at Hollan Village. Sumptious food and all vegetarian.

Anyway, whatever you decide to do (or not do!), have a blast !

    ReplyDelete
  35. Appu - TH and I went to Original Sin on Valentines day (or the day before I think, we don't specifically celebrate V-day). I found the food bland, overpriced and not very good. But I am convinced its cuz we ordered the wrong stuff. The hummus and pita was definitely good but not the best I have had and for that price, they better serve up the best! You know what I mean?

    What did you order?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Nags, best wishes in advance. Hope you have a wonderful day. Ur b'day should be totally different from ur usual days. Do something u've never done before, go someplace new..anything, so its memorable. Whatever u do, have a blast and don't COOK!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I ♥ that tag line...LOL!! Have a great day Nags!! Bake a 4 (even 6 will do) layered cake for yourself, go out & have a spicy street food meal...& then come back with your eqaully good half,& indulge in the cake waiting or you!!

  38. Have not read all the PPs comments. My suggestion is to check in to a nice hotel in Singapore itself the previous evening of your bday preferably one with a SPA. Have a romantic 12 am birthday with your husband in a different environment other than your home. Order room service in the morning for a nice breakfast. If the room has a nice patio or deck facing a nice view breakfast in the deck will be awesome. Take a nice shower throw the towels around as the room service will pick it all up. Go out not too far away from the hotel and do whatever you enjoy the most nature, museum, beach any kind of activity that will soothe you. Have a light lunch. Go back to the hotel and get a massage , come back a take a nap and go for a late evening nice dinner and spend another wonderful night in the hotel. This is what I did for my 30th birthday :)

  54. Hi nags
How about doing something different like having dinner on the Sentosa cable car? You get a panoramic (and romantic) view of the city skyline and I from what I hear, the food is not too bad either. If you prefer to stay more grounded but still want a place with a good view, try Marche at Viovocity. The view is lovely and the food is good (lots of veg options especially their Rosti). You can always top off dinner with a romantic dessert course at the Prive Bakery cafe (http://www.prive.com.sg/). Anyways I hope you have a lovely b'day and also a relaxing long weekend. Thanks for sharing your lovely recipes with us all :D

One bit of advice - stay out of the kitchen! You shouldn't be cooking (even to celebrate) on your birthday. :)
Take the day off from work, and have fun doing all things you want to (and can afford to)do. Enjoy your day.

    ReplyDelete
  65. start the day with breakfast in bed, with a picnic lunch in a park (if the weather is good) , and if u can , spend the rest of the time with kids , have a superb dinner with ur hubby at home or out .Last but not the least ..think about all the good tiding which came your way in the past one year.
    Have a Happy Birthday!!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Happy Birthday:)
I'd suggest starting the day with breakfast cooked by hubby (french toast with a chocolatey drink, or combine that in this recipe : bakingbites.com/2009/08/chocolate-french-toast). If you are taking the day off go for a picnic or else have lunch with friends. Spend the evening having a candlelit dinner. let others do the cooking on your B-day! Have a great day and a great year ahead

    ReplyDelete
  67. Its your Birthday, shouldnt YOU be getting a gift ideally? :)
What comes to mind right now, for the celebrations, is a nice Black forest cake, I cant imagine Birthdays without this! Dont cook, go out for dinner. Maybe you can try a different cuisine, something you have never had but always wanted to try out afterall its your B'day so it will be your choice!

    Have a great B'day!

    Regards,
    Veds

Hi there, thank you so much for leaving a note on my recipes and posts. I really appreciate it and do read every single one of them although it's not always possible to reply individually. I wish I could hire some people to do all the boring stuff in my life while I reply to all of you all day.

That was not even a joke!

Browse around, have fun. Hope you come back to visit soon.
